Behind the Scenes
We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who came out to the GR Remodeling and New Home Show. It was nice to see some familiar faces and to make new connections. For our first year in the show we were pleasantly surprised by how things went. It took a lot of time, energy, and planning but we felt it was a successful weekend!
Reflecting on how things went has us appreciating, more than ever, the commitment from not only our MPQH team but some additional folks who make it all possible. This month we will be highlighting someone who has played a massive role in reshaping what we do; especially what we share!
You may have noticed over the past year or so that there was a significant jump in the quality of our content. And while the quality of our projects does and will continue to improve, we have one person to thank for the phenomenal photos and videos that we get to share with you all. Meet Liv Spencer, owner of Reel Joy Media. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Mi., Liv is another local entrepreneur that we have partnered up with and hope to work with for many years to come!
Liv Spencer of Reel Joy Media
Liv stopped by the show to help us capture the moment. While she was there she got to see some of her work on display. Her photos and videos graced just about every inch of our booth and people were enamored! I was able to ask her a few questions about herself, her work with us, and her passion for what she does.
Liv started Reel Joy Media in December of 2024 but her love for video started when she was just a young girl. Liv recalls making funny Vine videos (IYKYK) and nail tutorials. Ever the entrepreneur, she turned her nail art into a little side hustle, charging $5 per set - which is a steal! Liv knew, even as a kid, that a social media presence would be an important aspect of any good business. So on top of doing nails she would create videos to promote her nail art online. Despite having her nail business under her belt, starting something new can be scary. Liv shared that she felt driven to start her own business so that she could have more control of her work life balance. Because she prioritizes her family and loved ones, the opportunity to go out on her own and work fewer hours but make more was just something she couldn’t turn down.
When you meet Liv you instantly get this sense that she could be your best friend. She is kind, energetic, and takes a genuine interest in whoever she is talking to. She has an openness that seems to draw people to her. With her behind the camera, its no wonder all of her clients look like professionals in front of it! Liv shared that her ideal client is someone that trusts her right off the bat. Once you see what she can do its almost impossible not to.
Working in a creative field can be so fun and fulfilling, especially when you get to collaborate with other people. Liv told us that the best part of her job is shoot days. She went on to explain that she really values her relationships with her clients. No matter how good the end product is, and with Liv it’s gonna be good, she prefers to laugh and have fun along the way. And she’s so right, if you don’t establish a solid relationship with your clients you can end up being replaced. Probably another reason why we get along with Liv so well, relationships are top of our priority list as well.
As we get to know Liv, a few things have become abundantly clear: she is incredibly talented and she is equally unique. She is dedicated to her craft and she wants to share her gifts with the world. Beyond her love for photography and videography, Liv shared that she has found strength and solace in music. Specifically the song Turn Out Fine by Henrik (give it a listen!!). She explained that when she was feeling nervous about stepping into freelancing this song really helped her calm down and believe in herself.
Liv has meant a great deal to our team, not only for what she brings to the table but also for who she brings to the table. We are lucky to not only work with Liv but also her equally as wonderful other half! Donovan Spencer is one of the carpenters here at MPQH. These two are the epitome of a dynamic duo. Fun and friendly, the Spencers are a delightful reminder of why we do what we do. We are in this business to build more than just homes. We want to build a lasting legacy of leadership, community, and excellence. We are so blessed to be able to work with two people that are so perfectly aligned with this mission.
Another massive thank you to Liv (and Donovan) for all of the hours they have put in to help make MP Quality Homes what it is. If you are looking to step your social media game up you will not be disappointed by connecting with Liv Spencer at Reel Joy Media. Welcome to the new year, y’all, there are so many fun things coming!
